Vince McMahon backstage morale

Say what you will about Vince McMahon, but nobody can deny that WWE wouldn’t be the well-oiled machine it is if it wasn’t for him. Although McMahon is featured in some of WWE’s funniest storylines, he is a man of strict principles off-screen. McMahon demands uncompromising professionalism in his office and his austerity is one of the biggest reasons he is respected and feared backstage. His unwavering standards for professional conduct are also a pet peeve of those who work with him.

Earlier this year in July, the 77-year-old was forced into retirement after news about his “hush money” scandal made rounds on the internet. Four months after staying away from the company, WSJ reported that McMahon is reportedly planning to get back to his former position of power.

McMahon claimed that he was forced to retire after he was given “bad advice” from those close to him. While a handful of people are excited about his potential return, others fear the former boss’s return

Vince McMahon almost fired an employee for entering his office without knocking on his door

Back when Vince was in complete control of the company, his employees dreaded crossing the boss. There is a laundry list of people who were fired for the most ridiculous reasons.

Speaking on the Insiders podcast, former WWE writer Jimmy Jacobs revealed that McMahon once nearly fired one of his employees for forgetting to knock on his door before entering his office. According to Jacobs, everybody working for Vince is scared of him.

“One of my first, maybe my first month there, my closest friend on the team, on the writing team, almost got fired because he came into Vince’s office without knocking. Vince had said,’ Fix up this promo and come back to me.’ So he fixes the promo and he comes back to him. He doesn’t knock, and Vince wanted to fire him. Dave and Ed, great bosses, great dudes, they saved him”. Said Jacobs.

Jacobs added that other bosses had to save the writer’s job. The writer, Ryan Callahan, is now the lead writer for SmackDown and has come a long way in the company. Jacobs also pointed out that when working with Vince, you are one weird interaction away from being fired.

Former WWE writer comments on Vince McMahon’s dislike for people who sneezed in front of him

Known for his quirks, McMahon detested people who sneezed in front of him. Vince’s peculiar attitude made it difficult for his employees to work with him. Even Stephanie McMahon once confirmed that Vince hated things that could not control, sneezing being one of them.

In an edition of the Wrestling with Freddie podcast, former senior writer Freddie Prinze Jr. was asked if he had ever sneezed in front of his former boss. FPJ responded stating that even if he did, he didn’t care as it was a “normal thing”.

“I don’t think so,” Prinze stated. “If I did, I didn’t care. It’s a normal thing. I know I’ve heard all the, ‘Ew, gross’ stories and all of that, but he just plays it up. He doesn’t like it, but who wants to get sneezed on? Who wants to get sick? Nobody.”
