It would not be wrong to say that Vince McMahon’s back-and-forth with a lawsuit isn’t something new. Last year, in July, the 77-year-old had to retire following the hush money scandal exposed by the Wall Street Journal (WSJ). In fact, when he returned recently, a WWE shareholder dragged him to court for misusing his voting power. Recently, some major news about his decades-old lawsuit has come to light.

Former WWE referee Rita Chatterton had accused Vince McMahon of r*ping her in the back of a limousine in 1986. However, he refused the allegations, and the case was dropped in 1993. Finally, the lawsuit has come to an end. However, WSJ reports the settlement has been made in millions.

Vince McMahon’s lawsuit settles with Rita Chatterton receiving millions in compensation

Recently, victims of s*xual crimes were given a one-year window by New York law to come up with old lawsuits. Cases that were earlier dropped due to the statute of limitations got reopened.

Rita Chatterton also received another chance to tell her side of the story. More importantly, it brought Vince McMahon’s lawsuit to light again. Last year, in November, the former WWE referee asked Mr. McMahon for compensation of $11.75 million. Finally, the decades-old case has come to an end.

Recently, WSJ reported that Vince McMahon’s lawsuit has settled with a multimillion-dollar legal settlement. Although the 77-year-old has denied all the allegations, he has agreed to pay Rita Chatterton. As far as the compensation sum is concerned, it has been kept undisclosed. But Vince will pay an initial amount and then pay later in installments. According to the report, Vince McMahon’s lawsuit was settled last month.

Jerry McDevitt, Vince McMahon’s lawyer, has also made a big statement about the whole lawsuit. He stated that the 77-year-old agreed to pay only to avoid the cost of litigation. McDevitt said:

“Mr. McMahon denies and always has denied r*ping Ms. [Rita] Chatterton. And he settled the case solely to avoid the cost of litigation.”

Well, it seems Controversies and Lawsuits will always be linked with WWE’s executive chairman as long as he is in business. And looking at the current WWE situation, who knows how many more lawsuits will be filed against him in the future.

The 77-year-old could be selling his billion-dollar company in the next three to six months

When Vince McMahon retired and Triple H & Stephanie took over last year, everyone thought WWE was finally in good hands. As a matter of fact, the new regime delivered by breaking many pay-per-view records in 2022. However, the good times didn’t last long for anyone happy with the way things were going.

In less than six months, Mr. McMahon returned to the WWE Board of Directors. This time, he aims to oversee the upcoming media rights deal and sell the company. Vince, in fact, has hired an adviser and will reportedly sell WWE in the next three to six months.

Nevertheless, keeping all things aside, it’s good to see Rita Chatterton finally getting some form of justice. As far as WWE getting sold is concerned, names and rumors come up every day, but nothing has happened as of now.
