The current WWE Undisputed Champion Roman Reigns has held the WWE Universal title for over a staggering 850 days and is still going strong. The Tribal Chief unified his Championship with the WWE Championship earlier at WrestleMania 38 after he defeated Brock Lesnar in a winner take all match. Since then, many have tried to dethrone the Head of the Table but to no avail. Over the past few months, top talents such as Brock Lesnar, Drew McIntyre, Bobby Lashley, Goldberg, and more have tried capturing the titles in a losing effort. Roman Reigns last defended his WWE Undisputed Championship against Logan Paul at Crown Jewels.

Since Reigns is the holder of both top titles of leading brands, his appearance is not limited to one brand. However, because of this, fans only see one top title defense at WWE’s PLEs.

With Cody Rhodes’ imminent return, fans have been speculating about Reigns dropping one of his titles. However, the company does not want Reign’s title reign to end. And so, there is a possibility that a new major Championship may be created for either Raw or SmackDown.

WWE may introduce a new major Championship title

As noted, Roman Reigns will most likely hold on to his WWE Undisputed Championship as WWE does not want him to lose either of his titles on the road to WrestleMania 39. To fill the void of a second major title, WWE is reportedly considering introducing another Championship belt to one of its brands.

In doing so, Roman Reigns’ appearance will be exclusive to either Raw or SmackDown. If Reigns stays on Raw, the new Championship belt will be inaugurated on SmackDown and vice versa. According to Wrestling Observer Newsletter, the plan is still in talks and the brand to have the new Championship title depends on what brand Reigns winds up on.

“There is absolutely talk of creating a new title, yes. It’s been a year. The mentality was always that it’s each brand should have a title but I think this year, above and beyond everything, this entire year was all about getting Roman Reigns over and trying to get him to that John Cena level to where he is this big attraction.  In the long term, I think they want Raw and Smackdown to each have titles.”

Will WWE bring back the prestigious Eagle Winged Championship?

In an edition of After The Bell podcast, Cody Rhodes hinted at bringing back the prestigious Eagle Winged Championship. Introduced by Hulk Hogan in 1988, the championship was held by the greatest names in wrestling including Stone Cold Steve Austin, Bret Hart, Shawn Michaels, and many more.

Although Rhodes’ opponent for WrestleMania is not confirmed, there is a high chance for WWE to have him reignite his feud with Seth Rollins. It remains to be seen if WWE will revive the old Championship or even introduce a new title and put it on Rhodes.

“Hypothetically, it would be something, it really would be something to do that, achieve the ultimate industry dream and be the best of the best, ever and then perhaps give it a fresh coat of paint with the Winged Eagle, the redundantly named title, that would be something.” Said Rhodes.
