Zlatan to United: Former United striker Zlatan Ibrahimovic could make a stunning move back to Old Trafford.

Manchester United didn’t make the best of starts in the Premier League this season. The club is currently 8th in the league with 13 points. Moreover, Jose Mourinho’s side conceded losses to Brighton and West Ham in the league, and lower-league side Derby County in their first match of Carabao Cup.

The season was further marred with controversy, as midfielder Paul Pogba has overtly criticized the manager’s tactics in post-match interviews. After the defeat to Derby County, Mourinho and Pogba were caught arguing during a training session.

Goals have dried up for the club, as United has a goal difference of -1 in the league. Romelu Lukaku and Marcus Rashford have missed significant chances in front of the goal this season.

And so, there have been rumors circulating around the club that Mourinho wants to bring back Zlatan Ibrahimovic.

Zlatan to United:

Ibrahimovic joined Manchester United in 2016 and made an instant impact for the club. United finished poorly in the league but the Swedish striker was influential in United’s successful campaigns in the EFL Cup and Europa League.

Zlatan’s season at United finished in April due to career-threatening injury during the quarterfinal of the Europa League, but the striker still finished as the highest goalscorer for United in 2016/17. The Swedish star scored 28 goals in 46 appearances throughout the season.

Mark Ogden, the ESPN journalist, now suggests that Mourinho is inclined on bringing Zlatan back to Old Trafford. In his article on ESPN, he reports that the Manchester United manager is considering a loan-move for Zlatan Ibrahimovic.

However, Ogden also writes that Manchester United has neither confirmed nor denied the rumors.

Zlatan currently plays at LA Galaxy in the MLS, where he has scored 21 goals in 25 appearances. Ogden writes that the return of Zlatan would halt the inner turmoil between players and the manager. The Swedish star shares a good relationship with both, Mourinho and the players, and also comes across as a leading figure in the dressing room.

What next?

Yesterday, Zlatan commented on Manchester United’s situation at the moment. He insisted that Mourinho is the right man for the job and players need to step up.

“I think he is the right coach for that club, for that team. But a coach is only as good as his team, so it’s not like he can do miracles if the team is not good enough. And I feel the team is good – it’s progressing, becoming better,” said Zlatan.

“This is his third year, the players know more and more the way he wants to play and how he wants it – so I believe, yes, I think he has the ability to win the Premier League,” he further added.
