WWE comes up short at MTV Movie and TV awards

WWE comes up short at MTV Movie and TV awards. However, Dwayne Johnson receiving the ‘Generations Award’ came as a consolation prize for the company.

The WWE had earlier announced that it’s Superstars had been nominated in two different categories for the MTV Movie and TV awards. Their historic triple threat match between Becky Lynch, Charlotte Flair and Ronda Rousey had been nominated for the ‘Best Fight’. This was the first time in the company’s history that a women’s match had closed their biggest show of the year- Wrestlemania.

Their other nomination was for the “Best Real-Life Hero” award. Roman Reigns was nominated for this award following his inspirational battle against Leukaemia last year. The Big Dog made a successful return to the ring earlier this year and has since resumed normal duties to the delight of many of his fans.

Unfortunately, the WWE failed to win either of the two awards and returned empty handed. In a shocking result, Captain Marvel pipped much more high-profile fights to bag the Best Fight award. While Roman Reigns lost out to Ruth Bader Ginsburg for the Best Real-Life Hero award.

However, they did get a consolation prize as Dwayne Johnson got the “Generations Award”. An award that is akin to the lifetime achievement award. A life that also includes his time as ‘The Rock’ back on Raw and SmackDown.

The WWE was represented by many of its current and a few of its past performers.  And while they may have come up short this year, they have done enough to catch a few eyes in the process and gained a lot of mainstream attention.
