MS Dhoni jersey number: Who will wear No.7 jersey for India during the Test match series against West Indies beginning from August 22?
Team India will commence its World Test Championship campaign with a two-match away Test Series versus West Indies from August 22 at Antigua. The World Test Championship will be marked with players’ name along with their jersey numbers printed on their backs, alike the ones donned during the limited-overs series.
But, there are two special numbers which are very close to the Indian hearts- No.7 and No.10. And we do not need to tell you with whom are they associated with.
Master Blaster’s famous No.10 jersey has unofficially been retired by BCCI, after pacer Shardul Thakur wore it for a brief period of time, and thereby facing the ignominy of Tendulkar fans.
While no Indian players wear the No.10 jersey as a mark of respect for Tendulkar’s achievements, there is a strong possibility that jersey No.7 worn by MS Dhoni in limited-overs will also not be used in the Test format.
No.7 jersey however, is available
As per the reports, most of the Indian players would be choosing their jersey numbers for the Tests.
“Virat is expected to wear 18 while Rohit wears 45. Most of the players will wear their respective ODI and T20 numbers. Since MS is no longer playing Test cricket, jersey No.7 is available but there is very little chance that any of the players will wear it,” a senior BCCI official said on condition of anonymity.
“People relate jersey No 7 with MS. The consignment of numbered jerseys will only arrive in Caribbean only after ODI series,” he added.

Although a jersey cannot be retired, the BCCI may pass a move disallowing a player from picking the No.7 as their jersey number considering the possibility of a Thakur kind of an adverse reaction from the MS Dhoni fans as well.
It is worth mentioning that Shardul Thakur had donned the Indian jersey with No.10 on his back and in his debut ODI versus Sri Lanka in Colombo. He, along with BCCI were heavily criticised by the fans as they had an emotional attachment with the number, which as per them could only belong to the Master Blaster.
