Steve Smith’s hilarious ‘leaving the ball’ compilation: The Australian batsman was seen leaving several ball in a funny manner.

During the third day of the second Test of the ongoing 2019 Ashes series between England and Australia at Lord’s, Australia batsman Steve Smith was seen leaving numerous balls outside the off-stump in a hilarious manner.

Smith, who came in to bat at No. 4 in the 23rd over, was solid against the English attack comprising of Stuart Broad, Jofra Archer and Chris Woakes.

Having resumed on Day 3 at 30/1, Australia lost three wickets for 50 runs in the first session. Cameron Bancroft (13), Usman Khawaja (36) and Travis Head (7) failed to show resolute against the English attack in tough conditions.

It was this period that Smith made sure that he keeps one end going like he did in both the innings of the first Test at Edgbaston. Batting on 13* (40) at lunch, Smith’s innings saw him predominantly leaving the balls outside the off-stump.

Given his contrasting technique, Smith usually looks different than most Test batsmen of the contemporary times. With him leaving the ball with keeping one leg in the air, showing his back to the bowlers and bringing his bat down at an awkward angle, it called for an intriguing display of ‘leaving the ball’.

After Australia captain Tim Paine won the toss and chose to field, his bowlers bundled out England for 258 in 77.1 overs. Currently at 80/4, Australia are trailing by another 178 runs to ensure they have a first innings lead. In such a situation, the visitors would be looking up to Smith yet again.
