Moises Henriques dismissal vs Stars: Watch Adam Zampa’s catch at short fine-leg sparks controversy in BBL qualifier
Moises Henriques dismissal vs Stars: The dismissal of Sixers’ captain in the qualifier sparked a massive debate at the MCG.
During the qualifier of the ongoing ninth season of the Big Bash League between Melbourne Stars and Sydney Sixers in Melbourne, a major controversy erupted with respect to the dismissal of Sydney Sixers captain Moises Henriques.
It all happened on the last delivery of the 12th over when Henriques’ attempt of playing a scoop of Melbourne Stars all-rounder Marcus Stoinis saw him walking back to the pavilion.
While short fine leg fielder Adam Zampa didn’t err a bit to grab a clean catch on a legal delivery, what initiated the doubt was him standing outside the 30-yard circle at the time of the bowler delivering the ball.

The decision was soon referred to the third umpire with “out” being the soft signal. The lack of an apt camera angle meant that the third umpire didn’t have conclusive evidence to change his decision. Therefore, the soft signal was persisted with and Henriques had to take the long walk back to the pavilion.
It is worth mentioning that the best angle available saw Zampa just inside the circle. However, the next angle where Stoinis actually delivered the ball didn’t have Zampa in the frame which didn’t necessarily mean that he was outside the circle.
After Stars captain Glenn Maxwell won the toss and invited the visitors in to bat, Sydney posted 142/7 in 20 overs. Having scored 34 (28) with the help of four fours, Sixers wicket-keeper batsman Joshua Philippe top-scored for them. With bowling figures of 4-0-21-3, Melbourne spinner Zampa was the pick of the their bowlers.

How Twitterati reacted:
Was he in or out? 🧐
Not really clear if Zampa was inside the ring as the ball left the bowler’s hand but Henriques has to go.

Brilliant anticipation from Adam Zampa. Zampa moved backwards outside the circle as Moises Henriques shaped to play ramp/lap shot. Excellent reading of the play. #BBL09
