Glenn Maxwell opines against T20 World Cup 2020 being played without spectators
Glenn Maxwell opines against T20 World Cup 2020: The Australian all-rounder laid emphasis of participation of spectators during the showpiece event.
Among the highest priced players before the IPL 2020 auction, Australia all-rounder Glenn Maxwell was re-bought by franchise Kings XI Punjab at a whopping price for IPL 2020.
Had it not been for the novel COVID-19 outbreak, Maxwell would have been in India playing for Kings XI. Originally scheduled to begin last month, IPL 2020 has been delayed till April 15 and is one of the many cricket tournaments which have been affected by coronavirus.
With the ongoing lockdown in the country expected to continue, one doesn’t see the cash-rich league beginning in the next few weeks.

Other than IPL 2020, Maxwell is also likely to play a vital role for Australia in the ICC T20 World Cup which will be played in Australia later this year. Speaking in an interview with ABC Grandstand, Maxwell has opined against playing the world tournament without spectators.
It is worth mentioning that Australia had hosted New Zealand for the first ODI of their three-match series behind closed doors at SCG last month.
“… it’s going to be hard for us to have crowds. I think if IPL goes ahead they can probably survive without any crowds, but I can’t see the T20 World Cup surviving without any people there.
“It’s going to be hard for us to justify having a World Cup when we can’t get people into the grounds. So I can’t see it happening in the near future. We’ve got to take care of everyone’s health and well-being,” Maxwell was quoted as saying by ABC Grandstand.
Having recovered from mental health issues, Maxwell led Melbourne Stars to the finals of this year’s Big Bash League. Maxwell, 31, had scored 398 runs in 17 matches at an average of 39.80 and a strike rate of 48.50 including three half-centuries.
