Andrew Strauss among probable candidates to lead Cricket Australia
Andrew Strauss among probable candidates to lead Cricket Australia: The former English captain might get the seat vacated by Kevin Roberts.
In a surprising development, if reports in the Australian media are to be believed, former England captain Andrew Strauss is among the probable candidates to lead Cricket Australia.
Having removed 40 positions in a major restructuring process to save AUD 40 million for the next financial year, CA had recently parted ways with CEO Kevin Roberts and batting coach Graeme Hick.
Strauss, who had successfully played the role of England and Wales Cricket Board’s Director of Cricket, will replace Roberts as the CEO of Cricket Australia provided he makes the cut.
Lots of quality candidates for the vacant CA CEO position and Andrew Strauss is a good one! But what about @Marsh_Paul ?
I feel he has done a great job with ACA and AFL!— Dean Jones AM (@ProfDeano) June 17, 2020

Having represented Sydney University more than two decades ago, Strauss isn’t completely unaware of Australia’s domestic structure. Considering how well he had done during his stint with the England Cricket Board, him landing the role might aid CA in these otherwise tough times for them.
Having said that, Australian fans might take time to adjust as Strauss had been a fierce competitor during his playing days against them.
Apart from leading England to victory in 2009 and 2010-11 Ashes series, Strauss has scored 2,418 runs in 57 outings across formats against Australia. In 20 Tests against the arch-rivals, the opening batsman had reached three-figure mark on four occasions.
Addressing the reporters earlier this week, CA Chairman Earl Eddings had considered finding a new CEO as “one of the most important roles” for Cricket Australia. “One of the most important roles of the board is to appoint a CEO. And that’s our role to do that.
“We’ll take our time and do an extensive search here and overseas. In the meantime, we have an outstanding candidate in Nick who can run the show in the meantime. I think that’s one of the most important things as a board that we do,” Eddings was quoted as saying.
