Rohit Sharma is likely to be named the vice captain of the Indian team

After leading his team to a third IPL title, Rohit Sharma has become the toast of the town, as the Mumbai Indians skipper looks set to handed more responsibilities in the national team. According to reports, Rohit Sharma is likely to be named the vice captain of the Indian team for the upcoming Champions Trophy in England.

Sharma, who is widely considered as one of the best batsmen in the country, has admirably led his franchise over the last few years. Ever since he was named the Mumbai Indians skipper, Sharma has led his team to three IPL triumphs. This makes him the most successful IPL captain in history, over taking the likes of MS Dhoni and Gautam Gambhir.

And now, BCCI has decided to reward his performances by probably making him the vice-captain of the national team. Deputizing under Kohli, Sharma can now aspire to one day lead his country on to the field.

“The selectors have not announced the name of the vice-captain. However, among themselves, they have already chosen one, but will be announced only if required in emergency,” one of the sources in BCCI revealed.

When Rohit was asked about the national team captaincy, he said that it was too far fetched to talk about at the moment. He believes in living in moment, and right now he is only concentrating at the task at hand.

“That’s thinking too far ahead. I don’t think too far ahead. When the opportunity comes, it comes. I will grab it with both hands,” he said.

Well it looks like Rohit is trying to stay humble at the moment. But if his IPL career is anything to go by, then you can be sure that he will definitely grab his opportunity as and when it comes.
