LeBron James ‘Sportsman of the year’: Lakers star honoured at 2020 BET Awards
LeBron James has been honored as the ‘Sportsman of the year’ at the 2020 BET awards; the Lakers star came up with a swift response on Twitter
The four-time MVP has been named as the Sportsman of the year at the 2020 BET awards. This is the 7th time LeBron James has won this prestigious award.
What are the BET awards?
The Black Entertainment Television (BET) instituted the BET Awards in 2001 to honor African-American personalities excelling in various fields.
The award has a diverse category ranging from winners in the category of music, movies, and sports.
This was the 20th edition of the awards, held on 28th June 2020.
The awards were held on a virtual platform this year due to the current COVID-19 situation. The show was hosted by Amanda Seales.
LeBron James – ‘Sportsman of the Year’
The Lakers superstar was honored with the ‘Sportsman of the Year’ award at the 2020 BET awards.
LeBron won the award for a record 7th time in his career. James first won the award back in 2004. The award was previously held by Steph Curry.

LeBron’s fellow NBA stars Kawhi Leonard, Giannis Antetokounmpo, and Steph Curry were also nominated for the award.

LeBron looking forward to the NBA ‘Bubble’ Restart
The 35-year old is ageing like wine, getting better and better every year. James is averaging 25.7 points, 7.9 rebounds, and 10.6 assists per game so far this season. He is leading the Lakers’ quest in hunting for their first title triumph since 2010.
Currently, the team is comfortably sitting on top of the Western Conference, and are most people’s favorites to win the title.

With the NBA restarting on 30th July in Orlando, James would be rearing to go and lead his Lakers side to the title.
The award would only add to King James’s confidence.
Lakers take on the LA Clippers in their first match back on 30th July.
