Sabonis Inury Update : Domantas Sabonis returns to NBA bubble, may feature in later games

Domantas Sabonis returns to the NBA bubble today after undergoing a procedure on his left foot. The first-time All Star may play in a possible Game 5.

The Indiana Pacers received a shot in the arm with the news of Domantas Sabonis returning to the NBA bubble. The 6’10” power forward was diagnosed with plantar fasciitis. He had to go off the court in a scrimmage game against the Portland Trail Blazers. This coincided with the return of Victor Oladipo.

The Pacers were never able to field the duo of their two most talented players together. If the Pacers are now able to extend the series against the Miami Heat beyond Game 4, they will be buoyed by the presence of their All Star big man.

Domantas Sabonis returns to the NBA bubble

Sabonis, who’s the son of the great Arvydas Sabonis, has been a revelation this past season. In 62 games, Sabonis averaged 18.5 points, 12.4 rebounds and 5.0 assists per game. He emerged as one of the most complete big men in the game, reminiscent of his own dad, who was a 7’3″ center.

If the Indiana Pacers are able to grind out one or two of their next 2 games against the Heat, they will be in with a real shot to advance to the Conference semifinals. The winner of this first round series will, in all probability, go up against the top-seeded Milwaukee Bucks at the next stage.

There’s precious little chance of Sabonis being at his best on both ends of the floor. But his playmaking from the post is something the Pacers have sorely missed.
