England squad for Australia series 2020: Jos Buttler and Jofra Archer recalled to England’s white-ball team
England squad for Australia series 2020: England have named two different squads for ODIs and T20Is for upcoming series against Australia.
Limited-overs vice-captain Jos Buttler and fast bowlers in Jofra Archer, Mark Wood and Sam Curran have been recalled to England’s T20I and ODI squads for the upcoming series against Australia.
All the four players missed the Ireland ODIs as they were part of England’s Test squad and playing inside bio-secure bubbles meant that England couldn’t play the same players across formats.
Test captain Joe Root and all-rounder Chris Woakes, who had missed the Ireland series due to the same reason, have also been recalled into the ODI squad. Both the players had last played an ODI during the tour of South Africa before the COVID-19 pandemic this year.
Opening batsman Jason Roy, who was recently ruled out of the T20I series against Pakistan due to a side strain, will miss the Australia series as well due to the injury. Other than Roy, fast bowlers in David Willey and Saqib Mahmood has also been left out from both the squads to accommodate the first-choice players.
While all-rounder Lewis Gregory is the only other ommision from the T20I squad, batsmen Joe Denly and James Vince, pacer Reece Topley and all-rounder Liam Dawson have been removed from the ODI side.

“We still want to field are our strongest XI in these games. It’s a wonderful opportunity to finish the summer on a really strong note.
“And after all the hard work that everyone’s put in behind the scenes – administrators, coaches, captains, players – we feel it’s a really good opportunity to finish the summer strongly against Australia. There’s no more iconic rivalry in cricket, as we all know,” said England’s national selector Ed Smith on the T20I and ODI squads against Australia.
Despite scoring a couple of half-centuries for Yorkshire on his T20 comeback, Root being left out from the T20I team depicts his position in the pecking order as far as the T20I squad is concerned. Addressing the matter, Smith talked about Root’s workload being a primary reason behind his name not being in the squad.
“I don’t think any door is closed to Joe Root. He’s a brilliant cricketer, an outstanding man. He’s also England’s Test captain. And at the moment we are setting up in a particular way as an XI in T20 cricket, and Joe’s not in that.
“He plays so much cricket, he gives so much to England every time he plays, and the decision is that it’s not right for him that we have him in the squad if he’s not likely to be starting,” Smith added.
