Jalen Ramsey Contract: Rams CB signs 5 year extension , Becomes highest paid cornerback in NFL history

The Los Angeles Rams and CB Jalen Ramsey agreed to a 5 year, $105 million contract extension earlier today.

The team announced the extension Wednesday morning without the details of the contract. However, ESPN’s Adam Schefter later confirmed that the deal would be worth $105 million over 5 years.

A Historic Contract Extension

Schefter reported the financial details of the contract after confirming with Ramsey’s agent, David Mulugheta. The deal will be worth $105 million and will keep Ramsey in LA through the 2025 season.

The extension breaks every record you can think of for his position. It is the largest contract in NFL history for a cornerback in terms of total value. Moreover, the $21 million average annual salary is also the highest for a CB in league history.

Previously, the record was held by Darrelle Revis after he signed a 6 year contract with the Buccaneers. Revis’ deal averaged out at around $18.2 million per year, so Ramsey’s extension is worth around $3 million more annually.

In respect to active players, the closest any cornerback comes to this deal is Darius Slay, who earns an average annual salary of $16.7 million. If that wasn’t enough, Ramsey’s $71.2 million guaranteed money at signing is easily the highest ever for any defensive back in NFL history.

Rams Keep Ramsey Through 2025 Season

The Rams acquired the 3 time pro bowler via trade last October. The Jaguars decided to part ways with their former 5th overall pick following tensions after a week 2 loss to the Texans.

Ramsey seemed to be pretty happy with the move, a trend we have been seeing of late with players leaving Jacksonville. On a episode of “Hard Knocks”, Ramsey went so far as to say that the day he was traded was “probably one of the best days of my life.”

The Rams clearly rate him highly after he picked up 33 tackles and an interception in just 9 games with the team last season. “I thought I had an appreciation for the way that he played and just watching him from afar,” Head coach Sean McVay said.

“But now, really getting a glimpse and with the amount of competitive work we’re getting in these training camp settings, he’s even better than I thought.”
