“I think I should pass the Team Principal torch”- Toto Wolff will not remain with Mercedes by 2022, claims Italian media amidst his transition plans.
It is a known fact that Toto Wolff is mapping his exit from Mercedes with a planned transition, but now NewsF1.it has marked a date for his exit.
According to the Italian media outlet, Wolff will not be Mercedes’ team principal in 2022 and is apparently negotiating with Daimler for a role of supervisor to allow him monitor Mercedes’ activities in F1 for the foreseeable future.
Earlier in the season, Wolff publically claimed that he will not remain in his role for long because of the exhaustive schedule and overwhelming travel across the season.
“It’s simply not sustainable to do a hundred races and be at the top like when I was at the beginning. Last year I spent 250 nights in hotels and 500 hours of flight. It’s certainly not what I want to continue doing for the rest of my life.” he said.
So, if all the information present is considered, this is probably Wolff’s last season with Mercedes as the in-charge on the track, and could also see the exit of Lewis Hamilton by the end of the next year.
Search for the successor
Wolff has claimed that he has a name in his mind to succeed him but will not reveal until the right time comes, but at the same time, there could be multiple candidates who could be worthy of the position.
“I think I should pass the Team Principal torch to someone who will start this journey with the same motivation and energy that I had when I started. I would be very proud to see someone do better than me! ” he said.
Nevertheless, it would be an end of an era for Mercedes, and it would be interesting to witness their transition amidst the ongoing dominance.
