“Something from a movie” – George Russell speaks out on the Romain Grosjean crash at Bahrain
“Something from a movie” – George Russell couldn’t believe the Romain Grosjean crash at Bahrain and spoke of the dangers of motorsport.
Romain Grosjean’s crash was one of the most horrific in recent memory. How he survived is nothing short of a miracle. Williams driver George Russell has spoken about it, highlighting the dangers associated with motorsports. He also complimented the safety standards in place by the FIA, which saved the Frenchman’s life.
“I saw as he speared off into the barrier and naturally looked into my mirror and saw a ball of flames. It felt like something from a movie almost, absolutely horrific, and a reminder to all of us, and everyone, motorsport is dangerous.”
“We go out there, in a race car, putting their lives on the line, and it was absolutely horrific. It says a lot about how safety is progressing. It will never be perfectly safe but to see him walk away, albeit pretty burnt, was incredible.”
Nicholas Latifi in awe of FIA safety measures
His teammate Nicholas Latifi echoed his sentiments, reminding the risks involved with the sport. For fans, it is an amazing spectacle, but for them, a single incident could mean the difference between life and death. He also paid special compliments to the halo, as also the protective clothing.
“It shows motorsport is dangerous, the risks are there, sometimes people at home forget that.”
There’s a painting of Ayrton Senna climbing out of his Williams at Tamburello…my mind just can’t process that this shot of Romain Grosjean below is actually real. https://t.co/WTgeZfKxfA

“When you see exciting races, cars crashing with each other, it makes for a good show but it doesn’t come without potential risks and consequences. It shows the strides the FIA has continued to make with safety. There’s a lot of things that could have gone a lot worse in different circumstances.
“The halo again showed itself to be a very critical addition to the car, and the safety which is amazing, all the fireproof clothing that we wear, and I’m sure this accident will prove another catalyst to push to even more safety on all fronts.”
