“Last year Paul George was missing shots and still communicating”: Kawhi Leonard comments on Clippers star’s playoff woes

Kawhi Leonard talks about Paul George’s role as a leader for the Clippers; says George was ‘still communicating’ when missing shots.

The Clippers will most definitely be having the ghost of last year’s Playoffs following them around for the entirety of this 2020-21 NBA season. Rightfully so, as the Clippers were expected to make the Finals, but fizzled out in merely the 2^nd round.

With Kawhi Leonard declining his player option, the Clippers’ championship window may be coming to a close. Thankfully, there is still hope for them. In their 2020-21 NBA season debut, the ‘Battle for LA’ was reignited. History repeated itself as the Clippers defeated the Lakers on opening night once again.

Amidst all the noise surrounding Paul George and all the slander he’s been receiving online, PG showed up and showed out last night. He dropped 33 points on an efficient 13/18 from the field. He helped the Clippers pull away with 15 points in the 3^rd quarter.

Kawhi Leonard opens up about Paul George and his less than average performances

In the postgame interview for Lakers v. Clippers, Kawhi Leonard was about what he saw in Paul George tonight, in terms of being a leader.

Leonard responded by saying, “Just because somebody makes shots, doesn’t mean they’re a leader. Last year when he was missing shots, he was still communicating, playing the right way, playing D, they didn’t just fall for him You just can’t say a leader because you are making shots.”

Kawhi Leonard’s response was basically him admitting that he also believed George underperformed last season. But he was impressed with how he did his due diligence and tried be a leader in the locker room.

Reports of Paul George taking over the locker room during the Playoffs were talked about. However, it was also simultaneously reported that the locker room did not respond well to George.

The Clippers’ chemistry, or lack thereof, will definitely be a storyline to follow in the coming months, leading into the Playoffs.
