“Michael Jordan is more beloved than LeBron James”: Colin Cowherd explains why Bulls legend is a global phenomenon unlike the Lakers star
Colin Cowherd says that Michael Jordan has a worldwide fame, fan following and love that LeBron James does not.
Sports talk show host and analyst Colin Cowherd decided to commemorate LeBron’s 36th birthday the only way most NBA analysts know how: drawing comparisons to Michael Jordan.
Cowherd spent more than 5 minutes coming up with ways to compare the two NBA greats in multiple aspects. It seemed as though he could not figure a singular stance on who though is the greatest and so diverted himself from the ‘GOAT’ debate altogether.
Instead, Colin started off by comparing LeBron James’s 36th birthday to what Michael Jordan was doing at the age of 36. He said stated that James is nowhere near retirement at 36 whereas Jordan was having a “mid-life crisis” at 36.
He then carried on to the crux of his argument which was based around whether Michael was more beloved than LeBron.
Colin Cowherd says that Michael Jordan is more beloved than LeBron James, even to this day
It has been nearly 18 years since the Bulls legend officially retired from the NBA but Colin believes that Jordan, to this day, is still more beloved than LeBron James.

He said that Michael Jordan presented and marketed himself to be ‘ordinary’. He did this with advertising for regular American products such as McDonalds and Gatorade. According to Cowherd, this made the general public feel as though Jordan was ‘one of them’.
Colin elaborated on this premise by stating, LeBron is the opposite of this. LeBron regularly showcases his personal gym, his mansion, his fancy dinners, etc. This would cause the public to dissociate themselves from LeBron and not relate to him.
He then ended his take by adding a random tidbit of information he feels strongly about. He said, “I feel LeBron James is the better teammate.”
