‘Beautiful to see her barking out calls’: Lakers’ LeBron James responds to Spurs’ Becky Hammon making history as first woman NBA coach
LeBron James gave his hearty congratulations to Becky Hammon, who became the first woman to coach an NBA team last night with the Spurs.
The Lakers are back to winning ways after a 121-107 win over the Spurs on Wednesday night. This game marked the 1000th consecutive game with 10 points or more for LeBron James in the regular season.
It was also LeBron’s 36th birthday, marking his 10th straight year as the best player in the NBA. James recorded 26 points, 8 assists and 5 rebounds in the win last night.
Becky Hammon got her chance to take a bow as the head coach after Gregg Popovich was ejected in the second quarter. Popovich looks less and less likely to care about refs’ opinion of him with each passing season.
What LeBron James said about Becky Hammon
In the post-game interview, James lavished the praise on the Spurs’ assistant coach:
“Obviously, she’s been paying her dues over the last few years and Coach Pop has given her the opportunity, It’s a beautiful thing just to hear her barking out calls, barking out sets. She’s very passionate about the game. So congrats to her, congrats to our league.”

LeBron and the Lakers next play against the Spurs once more on New Year’s Day. They will have the opportunity to take top spot in the West if they win the game and their competing teams lose theirs. Hammon will go back to the assistants bench in all likelihood as Popovich will look to get the Spurs back to winning ways.
