“Kyrie Irving won LeBron James a ring and Kevin Durant made a shot in his grill”: Skip Bayless defends Nets stars for their missed game winners
Skip Bayless recalls Kyrie Irving and Kevin Durant’s clutch NBA Finals moments alongside and against LeBron James, respectively.
The Brooklyn Nets have gotten off to a mediocre start to their 2020-21 NBA campaign. They looked phenomenal in their first two games. Their offense really stood out while their defense was average, which is better than what was expected.
However, as games have gone on, the losses have started trickling in. It doesn’t help that Spencer Dinwiddie has been ruled out for the remainder of the season with a partially torn Achilles. The Nets sit at an even 4-4 at the moment.
Their 4th loss of the season came at the hands of Russell Westbrook and the Washington Wizards. The Wizards, who are lauded as one of the worst teams in the league, pulled off the upset win 123-122.

Kyrie Irving and Kevin Durant both had a shot to ice the game Sunday night. As the announcers reiterated, both looks were relatively clean looks and yet they still missed the mark.

This caused NBA Twitter to react in a frenzy, questioning both the Nets superstars’ offense and their clutch factor. This is where Skip Bayless came in to calm everyone down.
He went on his show Undisputed and said,
“I watched Kyrie in a Game 7 at Oracle against the Warriors, win LeBron a ring by making the last shot. In Game 3 in the King’s palace in Cleveland, KD made the shot of shots right in LeBron’s grill.”

Skip Bayless is absolutely right on this one. The one thing the Brooklyn Nets do not have to worry about would be KD and Kyrie’s offensive ability. They are both lethal 3 level scorers who have proven to be clutch performers on countless occasions.
The Nets however, do need to work on their defense. Thankfully, they aren’t as bad as other offensive juggernauts such as the Nuggets or the Blazers.
If they can hover around the league average in defensive rating, while maintaining their offense, they could very well end up as favourites to win the East.
