“I’ll buy it with LeBron James”: Warriors minority owner Chamath Palihapitiya wants to buy Atlanta Dream from Senator Kelly Loeffler with Lakers star
Minority Warriors owner of Sri Lankan origin Chamath Palihapitiya wants in on LeBron James’ proposal to buy the Atlanta Dream from Kelly Loeffler.
It’s been all of 2 days since LeBron posted about wanting to buy the Atlanta Dream on Twitter. Since then, Carmelo Anthony first threw his hat in the ring. Now Chamath Palihapitiya, a 44-year-old venture capitalist in the valley, wants to talk business with the Lakers star.

I’ll buy it with you.

The Dream are owned by outgoing Republican senator Kelly Loeffler. Players for the team campaigned against her and the Republican party in the Georgia Senate runoff elections. The margin of 75,000 or so by which she lost was affected considerably by their actions.
Will LeBron James and Palihapitiya team up?
The Sri Lankan-born venture capitalist is considered one of the shrewdest minds in the Silicon Valley. He’s built a net worth in the neighborhood of $1 billion. His hedge fund Social Capital is worth more than that.
Chamath was an early-stage worker at Facebook, joining the company little over a year after it was founded. He worked primarily on increasing the platform’s user base.
During his 6 years with the tech giant, he made several investments on the side. These include Palantir, Plain Storage, Playdom and Bumptop. In his time with his own VC firm founded in 2011, one of his major investments was in Slack.
Doubtless the 44-year-old will be a great investment partner for James to have. Given that the Valley is predominantly liberal and progressive, their political leanings also match with each other. The Atlanta Dream would also be in the hands of an owner who has made great profits for his companies before.
