“The leg is okay”: John Kavanagh Gives An Update On The Leg Injury Conor McGregor Suffered At UFC 257 Against Dustin Poirier
Conor McGregor’s coach John Kavanagh provides an update on the leg injury Conor suffered at UFC 257.
At UFC 257, Dustin Poirier inflicted Conor McGregor his first TKO loss and also left him injured with calf kicks. The Irishman walked out of the arena with a help of a single crutch, which concerned MMA enthusiasts worldwide.
More than 24 hours have passed since the culmination of UFC 257, and in the meantime, McGregor has made a couple of social media posts that imply everything is fine with the Notorious one. However, an official update on his injury was yet to come and it did come from a significant member of his camp.

John Kavanagh Gives An Update On The Leg Injury Conor McGregor Suffered At UFC 257
In an interview with ESPN’s Ariel Helwani, Conor McGregor’s long time coach John Kavanagh addressed questions on Conor’s leg injury. Kavanagh, who was present at the ringside at UFC 257, said that the Kicks though were the deciding factor in the match but no lasting damage has occurred.
“Yeah, the leg is okay. It’s going to be a couple of days before he’s walking without any hindrance. But there’s no serious damage to the peroneal nerve that goes down there on that side of the leg, which was kicked a number of times. It was completely dead. And then the leg started filling up with blood [as well as the movement] restriction, so he couldn’t move on it at all.”
Kavanagh stated that he in the past has brought this kind of injury to the notice, and fighters like Michael Chandler have also suffered the same “drop flush.”
“Ironically, I’ve actually tweeted about this particular injury. It’s popping up its head in a few different MMA fights. It happened with [Michael] Chandler in one of his fights of Bellator. It’s called a ‘drop flush’ – where you just actually can’t send a signal down to your foot. You can’t move it. And then it’s pretty miserable.”
Kavanagh is of the view that the Injury will not last long, and soon McGregor will be ready to get back in the ring.
“There’s no bone damage. It was part of my conversation with him during the fight: ‘It is not the [Max] Holloway fight. There’s no destroyed ligament here. This is a sore leg, and it will pass.’ I’d say that in seven to ten days maximum, he will be back at full training. [He should be able to fight again] in May.”
