Kohli and Smith combine to create an embarrassing record in the first ODI
Virat Kohli and Steve Smith will be remembered as the two batsmen who defined this current generation of batsmanship in the game. There are several parallels that could be made between the two batting champions.
Both are successful captains of their respective national teams. Both are icons in their respective countries for a new generation of youngsters. And more importantly, both players would be desperate to win the ongoing series between the two nations.
Over the last few months, Australia have had a very poor record in ODIs away from home. The world champions will need to step up their game if they wish to do well in India, as the host nation looks to be in tremendous form.

Under the astute captaincy of Virat Kohli, team India has been soaring to great heights over the last year or so. After thrashing Sri Lanka in their own backyard, India will be looking to beat the world champions in front of their own fans.
Sp clearly both Kohli and Smith will be extremely pumped up for this challenge.
But the pair combined to create an embarrassing record in the first ODI in Chennai, as they were both dismissed very cheaply. Kohli was out without opening his account, while Smith was dismissed for just a solitary run.
The premier batsmen combined to score one run, which is the lowest combined total made by captains in an India-Australia match. The previous lowest was three runs, made in the 1981 Sydney ODI and 1998 Kanpur ODI.
Funny game, this!
