“Trae Young was heated at the referees”: Hawks star loses his cool, barks at officials after a close loss to Luka Doncic and his Mavericks
Hawks’ star Trae Young had a heated exchange with an official about a non-call at the end of Atlanta’s 1-point loss to the Mavericks.
The Atlanta Hawks lost a close game to the Dallas Mavericks tonight. After a night full of competitive basketball, the Mavs ended up on top, winning the contest 118-117. The Hawks blew a 9 point lead that they had to begin the 4th period.
Luka Doncic led the way for the Mavs with 28 points, 10 rebounds and 10 assists. For the Hawks, John Collins scored a game-high 33 points, and Trae Young chipped in with 25 points, 15 assists, and 7 rebounds.
Trae Young goes ballistic at an official, does not get the call
In the last play, the Hawks had a chance to win as they inbounded the ball, down 1, with 4.7 seconds on the clock. However, while setting a screen, Trae Young collided with Willey Cauley-Stein and fell on the floor. Danilo Gallinari had a shot, but he missed as the time expired.
Trae was not pleased with the non-call, as he was sure he had been fouled. He went towards the referee and was aggressively yelling at him. He also showed the official where he got it, and how it was almost bleeding.

After the game, the pool report issued by the refs stated that the contact was incidental. The officials reviewed the play and Willey Cauley Stien’s contact was purely incidental, and they deemed the call to be correct.

With the loss tonight, the Hawks now have an 11-13 record, good for the 8th spot in the East. They will need to put in more consistent performances to safeguard a playoff berth. Their issues are mainly on the defensive end of the ball, and can be sorted.
