Sebastian Vettel is set to ply his trade with Aston Martin in 2021, but he may not fetch the number one spot in the team as his teammate Lance Stroll is the son of the owner of the Aston Martin F1 team, a position he has enjoyed for the majority of his career.
Even with this condition, Vettel feels fine and has claimed that he is not worried about not being the number 1 in the team until they are given equal resources.
“To be honest, the number 1 status is not important to me,” said Vettel to RTL (translated via Google Translate). “As long as I am convinced that we have the same chances, no matter which side of the box – that has always been my approach – then that’s all I need in that regard.”
“The prerequisite is that we both have the same chances. That’s what I assume, and that’s why I’m not worried about it,” concluded Vettel.
Aston Martin attracting money
In the recent report published, Otmar Szafnaeur confessed that Aston Martin has been attracting immense amount of money from sponsorships.
And for that matter, even Sebastian Vettel’s appeal would have guaranteed them a significant amount, though the team has not confirmed this possibility.
But there cannot be any denial about the fact that Vettel’s move to Aston Martin was powerful, and can elevate their position on the grid. Last year, also under Racing Point’s name, the same contingent almost sealed a P3 on the constructors’ table.
Now, it remains to be seen how well Aston Martin performs with the elevated competition from McLaren and Ferrari in 2021, as all three aspire to fetch the 3rd spot in the grid, as Red Bull and Mercedes seems to be unmatchable.
