“Touch of class”: Jhulan Goswami helps injured Nadine de Klerk to win fans’ hearts regarding Spirit of Cricket
Jhulan Goswami: The legendary Indian seamer earned accolades for both her bowling performance and on-field behaviour today.
During the second ODI of the ongoing South Africa Women’s tour of India in Lucknow, veteran India seamer Jhulan Goswami registered an archetype “Spirit of Cricket” award by helping South African batswoman Nadine de Klerk.
It all happened in the 35th over of the South African innings when de Klerk suffered what appeared to be a cramp in her leg. Clearly struggling in the middle, de Klerk had called for the South African physio.
Meanwhile, Goswami, who was fielding inside the circle, was seen helping de Klerk with respect to removing the batting pad off her right leg. After a brief delay, de Klerk resumed batting before being dismissed by Goswami in the 38th over.
After India captain Mithali Raj won the toss and chose to bat, her bowlers did exceptionally well to dismiss the visitors on 157 in 41 overs. Goswami, who picked bowling figures of 10-0-42-4, was the pick of the bowlers for India. After from the 38-year old player, India spinner Rajeshwari Gaikwad and pacer Mansi Joshi picked three and two wickets respectively.
Barring a 50-run partnership for the third wicket between South Africa captain Sune Luus (36) and batswoman Lara Goodall (49), their innings never really got going at the Bharat Ratna Shri Atal Bihari Vajpayee Ekana Cricket Stadium.

Jhulan Goswami is such a champion bowler. Dismissed dangerous Lizelle Lee early on. Got Kapp in her comeback spell. Dismissed Nadine de Klerk & Shabnim Ismail with lovely change-up delivery: slower ball & cutter. India are favourites to win this match

Excellent fight back by India led ably by @JhulanG10 who is such a competitor. Some soft dismissals by SA. An easy chase but how India go about it is crucial. #INDvsSA

Today @JhulanG10 picked up 4/42. To put this performance and her longevity in perspective here’s a mind blowing fact: When Jhulan made her India debut in Jan 2002, Jimmy Anderson was yet to play for England🤯 👏👏 #INDvSA pic.twitter.com/tUpQ84sWKR
