“I’d rather go 0-30 than go 0-9”: Lakers legend Kobe Bryant reveals his mentality when having a bad shooting night
Kobe Bryant spoke about Deron Williams going for 0-9 in a game back in 2014, stating how he’d rather go 0-30 in a match than 0-9.
Kobe Bryant was one the most hard-working player to set foot on the hardwood. He was his biggest critic and practised at absurd hours to perfect the art of shooting the ball. His work ethic is unparalleled and looked up to by many of the NBA stars and former legends.
We have heard many anecdotes of Kobe staying back at the gym after a bad game or him shooting with his off-hand when he suffered an injury. His “Mamba Mentality” never let him stop attacking even when he was having an off-night.
Back in 2014, the director, Gotham Chopra, of “Kobe Bryant’s Muse” documentary shared a related tale of the Black Mamba. He revealed the reaction Bryant had to the then Brooklyn star Deron Williams having a 0-9 shooting night.
Kobe gave the most Kobe reply to this, saying he’d rather go 0-30 than go 0-9:
“Deron Williams went like 0-for-9. I was like, ‘Can you believe Deron Williams went 0-9?’ Kobe was like, ‘I would go 0-30 before I would go 0-9. 0-9 means you beat yourself, you psyched yourself out of the game, because Deron Williams can get more shots in the game. The only reason is because you’ve just now lost confidence in yourself.’

Kobe Bryant was the most clutch players in the league taking up difficult shots night in and night out
Being one of the best scorers in NBA history Kobe Bryant has rarely had a 0-9 type of bad shooting night. Although, it is very classic of him saying that he’d much rather miss 30 shots as he still had the courage to attempt shots.
In many instances, we have witnessed Kobe calling for an iso play and knocking down the most difficult of shots too. This is what set the 18-time All-Star apart from everybody.
He proved his attitude to be the successful one, as the 5-time NBA champ is now considered one of the best basketball players of all time.
Even after years of his retiring and his unfortunate passing, Kobe Bryant is one of the most influential and impactful icons of the game. He left us with a lot of lessons not only for basketball players but also for his millions of fans around the world.
