Kevin Durant says he and his Nets aren’t focused on facing off against Joel Embiid and his Philadelphia 76ers: “I don’t want to pinpoint that matchup”

Kevin Durant reveals his true feelings towards facing off against the Sixers, says he isn’t all too focused on pinpointing that matchup. 

The Brooklyn Nets have had quite an interesting season in 2020-21. With all the roster upgrades that they have gone through, it’s quite surprising that their big 3 in James Harden, Kevin Durant, and Kyrie Irving have only played a little over 180 total minutes together.

Stars being out due to injuries or personal reasons hasn’t stopped the Nets from steamrolling their way through most teams. The Philadelphia 76ers on the other hand, have remained consistent with their roster and brought that same consistency to the floor as well.

They remained atop the Eastern Conference for a majority of the time Joel Embiid missed due to a hyperextended left leg. With Embiid on the floor, the Sixers looked nothing less than title contenders for the most part.

The two Eastern Conference heavyweights are now set to face off tomorrow night, with multiple stars from the Nets’ side perhaps not being available for the bout.

Seems as though Kevin Durant’s approach towards trying to snag a win over the number 2 seeded Philadelphia 76ers won’t be any different from what it is when facing off against any other team in the league. 

“I want to play to just get back into the swing of things, rather than to pinpoint that matchup.”

Kevin Durant only recently returned from injury, and it didn’t take long for the 2x champ to get acclimated alongside his teammates. He dropped his first 30-bomb after coming back from injury, last night in a win over the Minnesota Timberwolves, where he had 31 on 11-15 shooting. 

Ben Simmons was asked a similar question yesterday, and the Sixers point guard had a similar, yet distinguished answer. “We’re going for the past champs; the Lakers. They were the ones who won a championship, so we got to give respect to them. Obviously Brooklyn has a lot of talent, but at the end of the day, there’s only one ball and you’ve got to play defense too.”
