The Undertaker reveals when he knew it was time for him to retire. The Deadman finally called time on his career at Survivor Series last year.
The Undertaker is one of the most iconic characters in all of professional wrestling. Having enthralled and entertained fans for years, the Deadman finally pulled the curtain on his career with a special appearance at Survivor Series 2020; exactly 30 years to the day he made his WWE debut.

His last match was against AJ Styles at Wrestlemania 36 last year. It was a cinematic match that ended with Taker riding into the sunset. While the match was highly praised by all quarters, the Undertaker told Justin Barrasso of Sports Illustrated, that halfway through the match he realized that it was over for him.
The Undertaker reveals when he knew it was time for him to retire
“About halfway through that night with AJ, I knew that was it for me. It became really obvious throughout the course of that night that I could no longer physically do things the way I want to do them, and I refuse to ever shortcut our fans.”
“Usually around October, I start getting my body ready for WrestleMania. I didn’t train a lot this year, purposely building in a safety net that way. So I was at peace with everything.”
The Undertaker is one of, if not the greatest wrestling act of all time. While he debuted at Survivor Series, much of his lore and history revolves around Wrestlemania. It is only fitting that the two PPV’s featured his last fight and appearance before, in his own words, he decided to “step aside and let this next generation have the reins and go where they’re going to go.”
