“I was going for the forced fumble, did you see that”: Pete Carroll jokes about playing around with WR Cody Thompson at Seahawks practice
The Oldest Coach in the NFL was as active as ever in a recent Seattle Seahawks practice. Pete Carroll might be turning 71 this year, but he proved that age is just a number, as he joked around by trying to take the ball out of WR Cody Thompson.
Toledo alum WR Cody Thompson made the Seahawks roster earlier this year. And the 25-year-old was seen at a minicamp practice yesterday. After Thompson caught a pass during a drill, Carroll rolled up on him and went right for the ball. To the aging coach’s credit, he did pop the ball out. Thompson had the awareness to strip the ball back out himself and dive on the fumble.

Carroll is doing great for his age, but it’s always a little bit of a concern when the coach gets taken down by a player in prime health, especially in pads. After today’s minicamp practice, Carroll was asked about the play.
“I was going for the forced fumble there, did you see that?” Pete Carroll said. “I was getting the ball out. The ball came out, I didn’t come up with it though. I think a couple of years back I’d have come up with that ball, but Cody did a better job scrambling for it.”

Pete Carroll was all smiles in minicamp. The 70-year-old is one of the best coaches in the NFL. The Seahawks leader led the team to the Lombardi trophy in 2014 and another Super Bowl appearance in 2015. And now he’d hope that the team will return to dominating the NFC in 2021.
