“Anthony Davis has to get to another level of improving his body”: Kevin Garnett sounds off on the Lakers star’s injury troubles as LeBron James continues to age
Hall of Fame power forward Kevin Garnett has words of advice for Lakers big man Anthony Davis after their playoff knockout.
Defending NBA Champions, the L. A Lakers recently suffered a huge blow after being eliminated in the very first round of the playoffs at the hands of the Phoenix suns within six games.
In a season that seemed to be marred with injuries and underwhelming performances from multiple role players, the Lakers will go back to the drawing board in hopes of returning stronger and healthier.
While the sheer physicality of the game makes most players susceptible to all kinds of injuries, Lakers big man Anthony Davis has had a terrible season with multiple injuries spread throughout. The most recent one being a groin injury at the end of Game 4 against the Suns, which undoubtedly cost the Lakers the series.
Prior to joining the Lakers, the 6’10 phenom had missed out on 108 regular-season games while playing for the New Orleans Pelicans due to a plethora of injuries. Davis’ has been unable to stay healthy throughout the two years he has been on the Lakers.
While there is no doubt with regards to his talent and ability when healthy, the nagging injuries have led to talk about the measures he takes to make sure he stays healthy and strong throughout the year and whether the 28-year-old who is now in his prime will be able to consistently perform alongside an ageing LeBron James heading towards the latter part of his career.
“Anthony Davis has to take another level of improving his body”: Kevin Garnett
In a recent appearance on “The Dan Patrick Show”, Former Boston Celtics Power forward Kevin Garnett got to talking about Anthony Davis and his constant injury problems.
“Whatever he has been doing for the last ten years, it’s not working. He should not be out of shape during the regular season”
Garnett who was known for his grit and durability believes that in order to consistently compete at the championship level, Davis will have to make some serious changes which will include staying healthy and in shape throughout the year. .
“Let’s just keep this real, LeBron came to L. A to not just to leave out the league on a great note with a great establishment like the Lakers. He wanted to play with a younger version, similar to what D-Wade did to him in Miami. He came to L. A to continue the legacy the Championship Legacy and spirit and right now he (Anthony Davis) isn’t doing that.”

While there is a case for the argument that certain body types are injury prone, Davis needs to take a few lessons from his co-star LeBron who is lauded for his longevity and consistency having entered his 18th season all the while performing at the highest level.
In his post-game interview, LeBron mentioned how getting Anthony Davis healthy for the next season is going to be a top priority for the Lakers. Perhaps King James will go down the same route as Michael Jordan who was known for bringing teammates to his residence and ensure they worked out with him and stayed dialled in throughout the year.
