“What more could Kevin Durant have possibly done?!”: Stephen A Smith throws shade at Kyrie Irving for the Nets losing to Giannis and the Bucks
Stephen A Smith doesn’t believe Kevin Durant could’ve done more than he did but also throws major shade at Kyrie Irving while saying so.
It’s quite ironic for the Brooklyn Nets that the man who tore his Achilles tendon merely 2 years ago was their most durable superstar throughout the 2021 NBA Playoffs. Kevin Durant carried an injury riddled Nets team to a Game 7 against a relatively healthy Milwaukee Bucks squad, dropping 48 in the process as well.
James Harden on the other hand, who’s touted as being one of the league’s most durable superstars, suffered a right hamstring injury that clearly hampered his play on the court. Though Kyrie Irving has had his fair share of injuries throughout his decade spanning career, he has been quite healthy for a couple years now.
However, there is no planning for a freak ankle sprain when accidentally stepping on a player’s foot and so Irving was ruled out for the entirety of the series. Kevin Durant was the best player on the court in quite nearly all 7 games of this series when factoring in players from both teams. He was the Nets’ first option on offense and was their best defender 9 out of 10 times.
Stephen A Smith gives props to Kevin Durant but takes shots at Kyrie Irving.
Stephen A Smith looks like he has the utmost respect for how Kevin Durant handled the particular predicament he was placed in, in terms of all the injuries to his co-superstars. However, when it came to Kyrie Irving, Stephen A was a little less kind. He brought up a particular quote from last year, said by Irving.
What else could @KDTrey5 have done??? pic.twitter.com/y4xQyhzhke

“I don’t really see us having a head coach, you know what I mean? KD could be the head coach. I could be the head coach,” said Kyrie Irving before the 2020-21 NBA season stared. The ESPN analyst brought this quote back up and asked him, “How’s that working out for you?”
Clearly, Stephen A Smith wasn’t informed that Irving took back those statements on December 14th by saying, “Steve’s (Nash) been amazing. He kind of commands the respect. I think I’ve got to take back my comments in terms of the head coach back a few months ago.”
