Tanya Snyder, the wife of owner Dan Snyder, was named as the Co-CEO of the team, effectively changing the franchise’s corporate structure in over two decades since her husband bought the team. But who is Tanya Snyder?

Tanya Snyder became one of the few men chief executives in the history of the NFL.

“This team is our family’s legacy,” Tanya Snyder said in a statement. “We are at a pivotal point in the history of this team as we work to become the gold standard of NFL franchises. The co-CEO titles reflect our approach to that effort. It is a natural progression. But it’s important to formally recognize the diversity of opinion and perspective that informs everything we do. In my new role, I’ll be positioned to ensure the core values that are central to our philanthropy permeate the entire organization and bring us closer to realizing our goals.”

Her appointment marks an additional and welcoming change in Washinton’s recent push to have a more diverse organization. Ron Rivera is one of five minority coaches in the NFL, while Jason Wright became the league’s first Black team president last August.

Dan Snyder, in a statement, on his wife Tanya’s promotion to co-CEO: “Tanya has always been my closest confidant and most important advisor, but her role has outgrown such informal titles. … I am incredibly proud to recognize it with a fitting title: CEO.”

Who is Tanya Snyder?

Tanya Snyder (then Tanya Ivey) started her career as a fashion model in Atlanta. She married Snyder Communications CEO Daniel Snyder in 1994, who went on to acquire the Washinton Redskins in 1999. Over the years, Tanya has become a national spokesperson for breast cancer awareness.

Mrs. Snyder has been leading Washington’s charitable work ever since the Snyders purchased the team. That includes the Washington Football Charitable Foundation, which raised $29 million for the Washington, D.C., metro area and provides support and services to more than 178,000 individuals (primarily children) annually.

Tanya also founded the Women of Washington fan club that over the years has amassed a population of 135,000 fans. And then also helped launch the THINK-PINK campaign for breast awareness 22 years ago. Tanya Snyder is a breast cancer survivor herself.

Tanya, 53,  and Daniel Snyder, 56, have 3 kids Tiffanie, Brittanie, and Gerry.
