“I don’t get really calls in the NBA”: Luka Doncic compares officiating at FIBA tournaments to how the Mavericks star is being reffed against NBA playoff defenses
Luka Doncic is one of the most tricky offensive players to officiate in the NBA. It’s understandable that he thinks he doesn’t get enough calls.
Luka has been one of the top 5 players in the NBA over the past 2 years. You can dispute that claim if you like, but All-NBA selections will prove you wrong. This man has been putting Dallas on his back with little playoff success to show for it.
In doing so, he’s already created a faction of basketball fans who’ll undermine everything he does. Luka’s foul-hunting style of play on certain occasions has definitely not helped matters.
Many NBA superstars have complained incessantly about the quality of officiating. Some of them think that the league has become too soft. The others in that category lament how they get a rough deal from the referees.
Luka Doncic says NBA referees don’t give him the calls he deserves
The Slovenian is back in his national team colors ahead of the Olympics tournament at Tokyo. Slovenia are attempting to seal an automatic qualification berth, and they got off to a good start in their hunt.
The reigning FIBA EuroBasket champions put on a clinic at both ends of the floor. Luka Doncic was in his element as well, stuffing the stat sheet with 13 points, 9 assists, 6 rebounds, and 5 steals in just 17 minutes.
There’s a very obvious difference in the way FIBA referees officiate foul calls in international competition. Luka was asked about this, and he responded with a response that will have many NBA fans fuming.
Luka Doncic was asked after the Slovenia game today if he’s used to not getting “star” calls in FIBA like he does in the NBA.
“I don’t really get calls in the NBA, I don’t think,” he said, smiling.
You’ve got to love him.

Those who’ve been watching the Mavs all season long will know for a fact that Luka’s correct. Does Doncic embellish the contact sometimes and bait his defenders into fouling him? Yes. But he’s also being fouled more than the number of calls he’s getting.
