Giannis Antetokounmpo is potentially one win away from his first Finals, but could that put him above LeBron James as the best player in the NBA.

When you think of the overall best player in the NBA over the last three to five years, LeBron James is probably the first name that comes to your mind. Other stars in the NBA have lacked the kind of consistency that LeBron has enjoyed, either due to injuries or a slight drop in performance.

However, LeBron has always been there, churning it out when other superstars couldn’t. However, there may be someone right on LeBron’s tail, and that someone is none other than the “Greek Freak.”

Nick Wright Believes Giannis Antetokounmpo Will Be Better Than LeBron James If He Wins NBA Finals

Over the last three years, if you compare LeBron and Giannis, you can make a very valid argument that Giannis has been superior. He’s won a couple of MVPs, a DPOY award, and he has the Bucks one win away from a championship.

LeBron, of course, hasn’t been any slouch either. The King won a Finals of himself last year, and while he doesn’t have the hardware recently that Giannis has been acquiring, he’s definitely been a top scorer, passer, and defender in the league.

So, can Giannis catch LeBron with this Finals win? It’s very possible. Nick Wright certainly believes so:

This year was also the first year where we saw some vulnerability out of LeBron. He missed the most number of games in a season throughout his career due to an ankle injury, and while this may be a complete stretch, he did look a little slower playing in these playoffs than he has in the past.

Making the best player argument is a very difficult one as there are many factors to consider. How much do you weigh the past compared to the present? How much does winning matter because then players like Steph Curry and Kevin Durant could attest their name to the title as well.
