“I was thrown out”– Lewis Hamilton recalls moment that could have derailed his life
“I was thrown out”– Lewis Hamilton recalls the moment in his life that could have spoilt his life forever, even though he claims he was at no fault.
Despite all the odds, Lewis Hamilton made it at the top of motorsports, and by statistics, he is the most successful driver in the history of Formula 1.
But this could not have been possible if he wasn’t saved from a moment, which could have potentially derailed his life, as evoked by Hamilton himself.
“It wasn’t a surprise to me for the educational system because I went through it, and had those experiences,” Hamilton told this to Sky Sports F1.
“One of the ones that were not surprising necessarily but super informative is about the expulsion rate for young Afro Caribbean individuals, and I experienced that personally. I was thrown out, and I didn’t even do anything.
“One day I want to tell you the whole story of what happened. The guy had it in for me. Just like, ‘I don’t have the evidence to get rid of you now but I will soon.'”
It could have derailed my life.
Hamilton then talked about how deeply affected he was after the incident and later was compelled even to run away from his surroundings to escape the trauma.
“He nearly derailed my whole life, my whole career,” the Mercedes driver said. “So I understand those findings. I know what it’s like and how people feel.
“I thought my life was over and I didn’t really want to go home that day. I was like, ‘Should I run away? Is this it?’ So I know the impact that it has on individuals, and I want to work to change that for people moving forwards.”
Hamilton recently took out the first report of his Hamilton commission, professing the inclusion of more people of colour in Formula 1.
