“You’ll never win a ring, Chris Paul!”: Rajon Rondo once released a prophecy on the Point God 12 years ago, and the harsh dig still stands horrifyingly accurate

Clippers guard Rajon Rondo once dropped a prophecy about Suns star Chris Paul, and it has so far unfolded with almost horrific accuracy

 

Early on in his career, Chris Paul was one of those players that you expected to win a championship during his early prime. Someone who would be sought after every team, and by essentially every superstar. Someone who really wouldn’t have to worry about his legacy.

While we will say that any given player would consider themselves lucky to have him as a teammate, the rest of that has been far from reality.

We love the Point God here, but even he himself knows his legacy is on the line. With a ring, he would be considered as arguably the greatest point guard of all time. Without it though, and his famous nickname may be remembered with an asterisk next to it.

Most NBA fans could’ve never predicted this a decade ago. However, unlike us, it seems Rajon Rondo was actually able to accurately predict the future. And frankly, it’s a bit terrifying.

“I’ve got a ring, and you’re never going to win one”: Rajon Rondo’s haunting words have stood true to this day for Chris Paul

Rajon Rondo has always been a good player. While he was on the Celtics though, he was just a tad bit forgotten. And frankly, with a big three of Kevin Garnett, Paul Pierce, and Ray Allen, who wouldn’t be?

Still, while the then-Celtics star got a ring early, Chris Paul was always considered the better player. This reportedly fueled some major jealousy and hatred within Rondo, causing the two players to have some serious beef between them.

During one of their early matchups, when Rondo was with the Celtics, and Paul was in New Orleans, both players reportedly trash-talked hard every second they were on the court. And when the final buzzer sounded, the now Clippers star had a little something to say.

“I’ve got a ring and you’re never going to win one.”

This was said in 2009. It has been 12 years since this statement was made, and despite all his greatness, the Point God has made only a single finals appearance in that time. There has been no ring, but a lot of chock jobs, and far more blunders than fingers can count.

If Chris Paul really retires ringless, these words will haunt his legacy for the eternity of time. And in the end, it would be Rajon Rondo who got the last laugh.
