“Glad the stigma on gaming has changed”: Packers QB Kurt Benkert Speaks About The Impact GameBattles Has Had On His Life and Football Career
Kurt Benkert, the Packers’ 3rd string QB, is also well-known for his passion for e-sports. He spoke to reporters yesterday about the influence video games have had on his life.
Benkert first made a name for himself during his time at the University of Virginia. After setting the school record for single-game passing yards, he drew the attention of the Atlanta Falcons, who signed him as a UDFA in 2018.
He spent 2 years in Atlanta, frequently being waived and signed to the practice squad, before signing with Green Bay in May of this year. Benkert will be behind Aaron Rodgers and Jordan Love on the depth chart so it’s unlikely we’ll see him in action, however he should have a bigger role than he had in Atlanta.
Beyond football, though, Benkert has a special passion for gaming. He is a partner of Twitch, the most popular streaming site in the world, and is also a member of Ghost Gaming.
When reporters asked him about his hobby yesterday, he had some interesting things to say.

If you’re a fan of gaming, you’ll probably agree with a lot of what Benkert had to say. He explains his earliest experiences with video games: playing Xbox in his neighbor’s garage.
The Packers QB also talked about GameBattles, a massive platform for e-sports competitions, and how he got into streaming. Talking about the stigma surrounding gaming, he admitted “I didn’t tell anybody about it because everyone looked at it [like] ‘If you played video games, you didn’t care about what else you were doing’. And I think that stigma has changed for the better.”
