Roger Federer has hinted that he may not be at the 2020 Tokyo Olympics
After a triumphant 2017 tennis season, startling all tennis legends with his gameplay and culminating the year as World Number two, the greatest tennis player of all time, the Swiss legend Roger Federer talks about his uncertainty to be present in the Tokyo Olympics.
The media has been interrogating the 36-year-old maestro about his intentions of calling off his game for quite some time now. Federer admitted about not competing in the Davis Cup in the near future, which implies that the 19-time Grand Slam champion wouldn’t make his presence in the 2020 Olympics(as he needs to feature in 4 Davis Cup ties to be eligible for the 2020 Olympic Games)
“I haven’t officially retired from the Davis Cup. It’s just because it’s always highly unlikely that I’ll play at this stage of my career. You know, I haven’t set Tokyo Olympics as a goal either. It hurt not being in Rio, but I was okay without it, too. I was flag bearer twice. I won gold. I won silver. I feel like I achieved a lot of great things at the Olympics. I’m not thinking that far ahead.”, says Federer.
As Switzerland prevailed over the Davis Cup trophy in 2014 and Federer competed in just one tie,
Federer needs three games more to be eligible for Tokyo.
Federer is looking forward to an affluent 2018 tennis season and will be commencing the season in the Hopman Cup in Perth, Australia.
