JUST IN: Andy Murray pulls out of the Brisbane Open
Andy Murray’s 2018 hasn’t gotten off to the perfect start with the hip injury forcing him to pull out of the Brisbane Open.
Murray was scheduled to play at the Brisbane Open on Thursday, but announced his omission from the event today.
Earlier this week, Rafa Nadal too pulled out of the Brisbane Open, in a bid to further work on his rehabilitation process.
Murray has been out of action since July after losing that see-saw quarter final against Sam Querrey at Wimbledon, ultimately bowing out due to a lacklustre performance in the decider.
Murray decided to then work on his hip injury before getting back on Tour, but apparently the process has taken more time than he would have expected.
The Brisbane Open was supposed to be Andy Murray’s warm up event before the Australian Open, and his withdrawal now puts a huge question mark on his participation in Melbourne.
The Australian Open starts on the 15th of January and Murray would be hoping that the extended rest(and rehabilitation) period gets him ready for the first Grand Slam of the year.
