“Muggsy Bogues, shoot it you f***ing midg*t!”: How Michael Jordan destroyed NBA’s shortest player’s career with one line during the 1995 Playoffs
Bulls legend Michael Jordan was one of the biggest trash talkers in the NBA, and what he did to Muggsy Bogues is an example of the same
The NBA is a league full of players trying to constantly prove they’re the best or their team is the best. There is no better time than the Playoffs for the same, and there was no bigger player than Michael Jordan. The Bulls legend was the best of the best, and he constantly proved the same.
In 1995, Michael Jordan was playing the first playoffs since his retirement, and he wasn’t in his best shape. However, MJ, even when he was in half-decent shape, was a better player than most of the people in the league. The #4 seeded Hornets were matched up with the #5 seeded Bulls.
The series went to Game 5, and it was a win or go home for both the teams. With the game on the line, MJ used one of his greatest weapons to seal the win, his trash talk.
Michael Jordan called Muggsy Bogues a midg*t and shook him off his game
Despite being just 5 foot 3 inches tall, Muggsy Bogues played for 14 seasons in the NBA, averaging just under 8 points per game. He had found a way to use his height to his advantage and play in a league where everyone was at least a foot taller.
The Hornets were down 85-84, with the series on the line. Bogues had the ball and his defender? Michael Jordan.
Jordan gave Bogues an open look, and yelled, “Shoot it, you f***ing midg*t!”
Apparently, that one sequence with Michael Jordan ruined Bogues’ career. Muggsy, who till that point was averaging 10ppg, suddenly fell down to 5ppg.
Michael Jordan and his tales of being a harda** are very common. The Bulls legend went to any extent to ensure he was winning, and that sometimes even meant him picking on his teammates.
