Shreyas Iyer wants more chances in the Indian team
There are many people who feel that Shreyas Iyer has already done enough to warrant a longer run in the national side. Iyer made his international bow in against Sri Lanka in December last year, as the graceful batsman played a couple of very good knocks.
After a lukewarm display in South Africa, Iyer found himself out of the side, as the selectors went in for Manish Pandey and Dinesh Karthik to fill in the two the middle order slots.
“It gets the best out of me. Because I always want to win. Even while batting, it never gets to my mind that I’m the captain, so I’ve to change my game. It has made me more mature in taking decisions and going for my shots.

“Earlier, I used to play pre-determined strokes, but now I’ve controlled that habit. I’m aware of the situation and the conditions,” he said.
“I should get a long run. I have done that much performance so obviously, I deserve it. I need to maintain my consistency to be in the Indian team.
“And also I have not got that many chances to play in the Indian team. I hardly got two chances (in South Africa), and that too, after 40 overs (he came in during the 36th and 32nd overs),” he added.
In all fairness to Iyer, he should not have been dropped for the ongoing Nidahas trophy in Sri Lanka. With neither Pandey nor Karthik truly cementing their place in the side, Iyer could certainly have featured in the matches.
But he should not worry too much, as another good performance in the IPL this season will see him find a way back into the national side.
