Dinesh Karthik expresses interest in playing for CSK
Dinesh Karthik has been in the headlines since his knock against Bangladesh in Nidahas Trophy’s final. He played a gutsy knock of 29 runs off just 8 balls which included 2 fours and 3 sixes. He finished the match by sending the ball over the ropes for a six when the men in blue needed 5 runs off the last ball.
Dinesh Karthik is also gearing up for the upcoming IPL season. He was bought for Rs 7.4 crore by KKR in IPL Auctions. The franchise also named him the skipper of the side.
KKR will be DK’s sixth IPL franchise in the tournament’s 10-year history. However, Dinesh Karthik has recently opened up on how deeply he wanted to play for Chennai Super Kings. He has never had the chance to represent his local side and it’s now highly unlikely that his dream would be fulfilled.
Dinesh Karthik revealed that he wanted to play for his local side since the inception of the tournament. But he never got a chance to do so. He also realizes that now he might never get the chance.
“Heart of hearts, I thought I’ll be playing for CSK from the very first year. It’s been 10 years and it has never happened. The dream is getting smaller by the day. I don’t know if I’ll ever play for CSK. I have been born and brought up in the city and would have loved to play for the Chennai team,” he was quoted as saying by Sportskeeda.
The wicket-keeper also feels that it’s an honour to represent the KKR’s side as a captain.
“But today, I have got the opportunity to lead an IPL team which is a big honor and I’d like to do justice to that. I think Chennai, Bengaluru, Kolkata, and Mumbai have very loyal fans. That’s the beauty of franchise cricket. Chennai has always been an educated cricketing crowd and the way CSK has performed over the years has helped develop this massive fan base,” Karthik added.
However, Dinesh Karthik also stated that he wanted the responsibility of leading the side at this stage of his career.
“I’m in a space where I want captaincy. I have done it at various levels but this is my first in the IPL and I’m looking forward to it,” he concluded
