“We were sitting in the garden when he asked me” – Michael Schumacher’s wife explains the real reason behind her husband’s move to Ferrari in 1996
Seven times World Champion Michael Schumacher’s wife Corinna reflects on the very important decision-making day for the driver. This particular decision in return would actually change the history of motorsport.
Michael Schumacher joined the sport with an ambition to become a world champion. He did achieve it with Benetton, where he won two crucial world championships.
He could’ve continued with the team, but instead decided to join an ailing Ferrari. The team was in no position for the world championship contention with the last driver winning for the team in the 1970s.
A talk in the garden changed everything for the Schumacher family
Lots of famous drivers gave their maximum efforts in order to find success with Ferrari. While a few couldn’t achieve it, the driver from Germany absolutely did.
A jump from Benetton to Ferrari was a difficult choice for Schumacher. His wife Corinna recalls that they were sitting in their garden when Schumacher asked for her advice.
Corinna agreed that it will be a great move for the German driver keeping in mind Jean Todd. The latter and the seven times world champion had an amazing relationship, someone even Corinna had confidence in.

Corinna and Michael Schumacher’s admiration toward Jean Todd
Mick Schumacher’s mother added that even her husband felt that the decision of joining Ferrari was the right one. With Jean Todd in the mix, the rest as they say is history.
According to Corinna, Michael Schumacher had plans to work with Jean Todd. She respects and admires Todd for the contribution he did shaping the life of the seven times world champion.
Michael Schumacher secured five world championships with the Prancing Horse, someone no driver could achieve. He is the joint highest number of the most championship won with Lewis Hamilton.
