“40 easy for Black Jesus!”: Allen Iverson Praises Michael Jordan’s Effervescence and Dismisses Modern NBA’s Defense
Allen Iverson always idolized Michael Jordan. Although he did cook him with his crossover the first time they met, he still gives MJ the distinction he deserved. And throughout time, his opinion of his GOAT hasn’t changed. Not one bit.
AI would classify as an “old head”. This is the term given to older players and fans of the tougher more rigorous basketball players from the older generation. As for the modern guys, they prefer the savvy and technicality in today’s game. Despite the vast differences in games, the consensus is that Michael would thrive in any era.
He was so far ahead of the game that despite the tough rules of the older generation, he used to average 30 points a game, in his career, no less.
So when Shannon Sharpe asked Allen how much Mike would average in today’s game, Iverson had the perfect, most nonchalant response you could think of.
Allen Iverson says Michael Jordan would average 40 points a game today!
Allen Iverson first asks MJ’s highest season average and then replies with, “40 easy! 40 easy for Black Jesus“. The fact that AI chose to use the “Black Jesus” nickname for MJ says all you need to know.

He continues to talk about how ridiculous his game was and why even after 30 years, it is revered by everyone. There is simply no dispute.
AI also talks about why he considers MJ his idol. Simply because of the fact that he brought so much to the game and the impact he made was profound. He also talks about how only three players in NBA history are “transcendental”.
AI talks about why MJ was transcendental
Allen adds that the reason why he has MJ so high on the list is because of bias. He says, “a lot of times its bias, if it wasn’t for him, I wouldn’t have the vision, I wouldn’t be “AI the basketball player”. he was the best to me.”
He speaks in awe of MJ about how transcendental he was and talks about Jordan’s effervescence as a player. Iverson also takes time to acknowledge LeBron. Allen explains, “I don’t put LeBron in the conversation because I know and respect him”
Iverson then segues about how he doesn’t have a personal relationship with MJ. The segment also talks about how MJ was already averaging 37 without efficient usage of the 3-point line. A big what if. But this is one we can get behind. We too think His Airness would average a scintillating 40!
