Mitchell Starc Injury Update: Will Mitch Starc take part in AUS vs SA Boxing Day Test?
Australian left-arm pacer Mitchell Starc suffered an injury blow in the boxing day test between Australia and South Africa in Melbourne. The day belonged to the Australian team, but they will certainly sweat upon the fitness of their star pacer.
The Australian pacers were at the money, and they managed to restrict South Africa to just 189 runs. There was a bit of help for the pacers in the wicket, but the batting application of the Proteas batters was certainly not great. Marco Jansen and Kyle Verreynne tried to fight, but it was not enough.
Cameron Green took his maiden 5-wicket haul in the match. During the final session of the day, Starc injured his middle finger while attempting a catch. He was taken off from the field, but he was back on the field again with a heavy strapping on his finger. Starc did not bowl a single over after coming back again.
Mitchell Starc Injury Update
Australian spinner Nathan Lyon has given an update on Mitchell Starc’s injury after the end of the first day’s play at the Melbourne Cricket Ground. He said that Starc will go for scans after the day’s play, and the extent of his injury will only be known after it, but he said that it does not look the greatest.
Lyon revealed that Starc went to bowl in the MCG nets after walking off the field, but he was not able to bowl properly in the nets as well. After struggling in the nets, when Starc came back, he did not bowl in the match.
“Not ideal, I don’t think,” Nathan Lyon told cricket.com.au after the day’s play.
“He’s popped off for a scan now. Fingers crossed we can get the best possible result with his scan. I don’t know what he’s technically done, but it doesn’t look the greatest.”
The scan results are not known yet, but according to Lyon, the signs are certainly not positive for the left-arm pacer. This is Starc’s 2nd finger injury in the last 6 months, and the management would definitely not take a risk considering the Indian series in mind.
