Brisbane Heat opening batter Josh Brown has left an indelible impression on the global cricketing fraternity via a maiden half-century in only his second T20. Given an opportunity for the second time in the season, Brown didn’t waste it like the first one last month to provide his team with a much-needed whirlwind start in Big Bash League 2022-23 Match 25 against Sydney Sixers at The Gabba.

With opening partner Colin Munro (10) getting out in the first over itself, Brown got off the mark with a single on the first Jackson Bird delivery that he faced in the second over.

Two dot balls in Ben Dwarshuis’ following over were perhaps enough for Brown to get his eye in as what followed was unbelievably insane in terms of big-hitting skills. The right-handed batter kick-started proceedings by pulling Dwarshuis twice in the same over for as many sixes.

A four and a six each in Bird’s second over further saw Brown putting on display a stamp of authority. The 29-year old player then welcomed Hayden Kerr into the attack by hitting a four and two sixes. In addition to the number of boundaries, what caught everyone’s attention was the thumping and dominating manner in which he was hitting a cricket ball.

It was on the penultimate delivery of the powerplay that Brown jumped down the track to hit SS spinner Izharulhaq Naveed for a four over cover to bring up a 19-ball half-century.

Nowhere near the record of fastest half-century in the history of the BBL, Brown didn’t stop after a personal milestone as Sixers all-rounder Sean Abbott was also treated with disdain before he was able to take revenge in the same over as the batter departed after scoring 62 (23) at a strike rate of 269.56.
