Rob Gronkoswki Admits to Almost Losing Out on a Chance to Play for the Patriots, Thanks to His Insatiable Craze for Partying
Rob Gronkowski is one of the greatest tight ends in the history of the NFL. However, that is not the only thing he is known for. His love for partying is as legendary as his towering, frightening presence on the gridiron. However, not many will know that his passion for having fun almost cost him a career with the Patriots, and a chance to play with Tom Brady.
Gronkowski and Brady were dominant during their years at New England. In fact, many would argue that if not for Brady, Gronk would not have unlocked his potential. Whether or not that is true, is debatable. However, Gronk and Brad formed a bond that is strong even today. That should trump any sporting achievement either of them achieved in their careers.
Rob Gronkowski almost fumbled his chances of joining the Patriots
Gronk may not be known for fumbling the ball a lot on the gridiron. However, even before he started playing for the Patriots, he almost fumbled a massive opportunity with them. All thanks to his carry addiction to partying. Patriots head coach Bill Belichick even says that picking Gronk was a big gamble.
“Rob was kind of a shot in the dark,” Belichick said. “He came up on his pre-draft visit, had a bad visit. We put him in a room, came back, he was asleep on the floor. Didn’t make a very good impression”. Gronk even confirmed Belichick’s story, saying he had given up on the Patriots even picking him after that incident.
Gronk recaps his pre-draft visit with the Patriots, which couldn’t have gone worse. Beyond hilarious that Belichick still took him after this 🤣

Gronkowski admits to once not caring about getting signed by the Patriots
“I partied super hard one night, this was one of my mistakes… Got absolutely hammered, and had to jump on the flight the next day, and start this whole tour. So, I already put myself in the bag. So I’m going on this tour, no asleep, I’m hungover already, I’m visiting all these teams, and I got to New England and I’m cashed,” Gronkowski said during an interview.
“I was like whatever team takes me, whatever round I go, whippy-doo. Like, I’m over this situation and process. I show up and I’m like I don’t give a flying sh** no more, I’m just gonna let it be, I’m just gonna let it fly,” he added. Although, he did reveal that he was confident about signing a big contract because a lot of his peers and those before him got signed even after getting in serious trouble.
Well, it seems it all turned out for the best. Belichick’s gamble paid off massively, and Gronkowski made a name for himself on the gridiron and the nearby clubs. Gronk would probably treasure his friendship with Brady more than any of the Super Bowls he has won. Will the NFL ever see another Rob Gronkowski take the field?
