After Anthony Davis Injury, LeBron James Showers Austin Reaves With Praise for 23-Point Playoff Debut
The Los Angeles Lakers played their first playoff game in nearly two years earlier today. Making their way to Memphis, the 2020 NBA Champions took on Ja Morant and a feisty Grizzlies team. Due to his excellent performance as of late, Austin Reaves got to start for his team in his Playoff debut.
It was a game full of ups and downs, with Anthony Davis suffering an injury on his shoulder. At the same time, Ja Morant’s availability for Game 2 is in ‘jeopardy’ after he suffered a hand injury. It was a close affair, with the Lakers taking a lead going into the 4th.
Austin Reaves took over in the final quarter, scoring 14 of his 23 points in the 4th. He went 100% from the field in the quarter and made sure the Lakers walked away with the win.
After the game, Reaves earned big praise from LeBron James.
LeBron James claims he knew how good Austin Reaves was from Day 1
After the game, we all knew that there was praise coming Austin Reaves’ way. He got one of the biggest praises he could tonight. LeBron James was very appreciative of his performance and taking over in the 4th.
“I knew from the first practice that he wasn’t going to be a two-way for long … I’ve been around the game long enough to know great basketball IQ players … and the (guys) that fit with me.”

Bron then went on to credit former HC, Frank Vogel for giving Reaves minutes as a rookie, which allowed him to grow into the player he is today.

Reaves was asked about the same after the game. He said he was just having fun after getting hot late in the game.

If the Lakers want to upset the Grizzlies, performances like the one Reaves and Rui Hachimura had tonight will be crucial. We’ll have to see if the Purple and Gold can replicate their success on Wednesday.
